Students demonstrate their learning at University Avenue Elementary Schools' Leadership Day

University Avenue Elementary School - Aerospace, Children’s Engineering and Science, hosted its seventh-annual Leadership Day on Thursday, May 20, a celebration of student achievement and growth throughout the school year.

Students presented research projects in an “Innovation Fair” explaining a problem or dream challenge and the creative solution they designed and proposed how it could come to life one day.

Throughout the hallways, students also stood ready as “wax museum statues,” where learners transformed into historical figures, reciting prepared reports sprinkled with notable facts about each subject for family and community members in attendance.

Musical performances were also on display for attendees to enjoy, ranging from student song and dance, drum, piano, keyboard and xylophone demonstrations.

One of two schools in Minnesota to earn national recognition as a Lighthouse School from FranklinCovey Education, University Avenue Elementary embraces the "Leader in Me" program, empowering students to focus on a wildly important goal, determine how to achieve it and develop essential life skills along the way. University Avenue Elementary is a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) magnet school with unique emphases on Aerospace, Children's Engineering, and Science (ACES), and has been named a Top Magnet School of Excellence by the Magnet Schools of America.
